The Wii bricking update thing is a small percentage thankfully. Considering that all new consoles have some sort of errors in a small number (or large number in Sony's case), I'm pretty pleased with the way that launch went personally.
Even if the problem happens with your particular Wii, Nintendo is replacing it or repairing it free or charge with little to no downtime, which is pretty awesome.
