The Mammals

They're a quasi-local country/folk band. One of like six country bands in the country with leftist leanings (Pro choice, anti-Bush). They started off really oldschool, but got less and less traditional. Their second record still has a nice version of "John Henry" (the one Springsteen did for the Seeger sessions).

Anyway, for your perusal, here's a single track from their most recent. "Carthage," which is a really nice track.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
