Other news:
Juan Rivera sustained a broken left tibia while playing winter ball in Venezuela on Friday.
Rivera's left leg has been placed in a cast and he will be flown to Miami, where he will be re-examined by a trauma specialist tomorrow. Depending on how severe the break is, he might not be ready for the beginning of the season. If he is ready, at least the Angels will finally have a good excuse for using him as a DH and Garret Anderson in the outfield. A severe break would increase the chances that the Angels sign Shea Hillenbrand and might cause them to give Aubrey Huff's agent a call.
According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, Keith Foulke is leaning toward signing with Cleveland, though a deal likely will not be completed until after Christmas.
Two sources familiar with the situation told the Dayton Daily News that Ken Griffey Jr. broke his left hand while playing with his kids.
It's likely, though not certain, that Griffey will be ready for the beginning of the exhibition season. The Reds, however, will want to limit his spring training action either way.
Free agent Shea Hillenbrand is frustrated with the Yankees, saying he was told multiple times they would make an offer though they've yet to do so.
Hillenbrand told The Star-Ledger on Thursday he thought the Yankees were no longer looking to sign him because of his defense. A Yankees official denied that, but it might be more likely that Hillenbrand joins the Angels.
