car stereo help

So my subs aren't working and I'm not sure whats wrong with them. I made sure all my connections are secure (and they were.) I keep getting the protect light on my amp coming on when I have everything going, so I thought it might be that the ground I had stopped working. I switched the ground and it didn't work. Still got it. Last time this happened to me the subs ended up being blown. Right now I have two Kicker 12" powered by a Volfhagen amp (sp?) Its hooked up with a capacitor too.

Anyone know what might be wrong?
