I was originally gonna use Hudson, but her performance was more of a singing one than an acting one. Dreamgirls will already win an award, which will make the Academy feel less guilty about skipping over Hudson.

Babel, on the other hand, will not win Best Picture, which means it needs SOME award. Hence, Blanchett.
