I've read some reviews, and apparently it is a pretty top notch movie. It doesn't have special effects or fantastic elements in it at all. You just see the kids as they are, using their imaginations to create Terebithia.

It's not going to be the best movie of the year, but it apparently is just as effective as the book at tugging at the ol' heart strings, and is a relatively honest portrayal of young lives.

Compared to some of the shit Hollywood throws at kids these days, I think the lack of special effects is more magical than anything that could ever be implied by them.
