Nobody's gonna wanna make games for a system if it's gonna take longer to put out a game. It's just not cost effective. This is especially the case for those smaller developers, where a delayed game can mean bankruptcy.

The first one's a bit of a misnomer. Couple of my friends were dealing with programming at the time, and can testify that the PS was similarly a pain to program for relatively.
The fact is, Sony was courting developers, so they were willing to take the time to learn. Nintendo was pissing on developers, so they didn't.
