Basically, iy's like anything else you can market. They've got like 5 versions of each Lord of the Rings DVD, and each sold well. Then there's CDs. Do you know how many times they've sold A Night at the Opera by Queen? I think it's sad that I own three versions (Boxed set, Hollywood release, DVDA), but there are people who own nine or more copies.
Nintendo has discovered that porting old games makes you money, for example. Some of the Zelda games now have 5 or 6 releases, pre VC. People buy them.
As for whether they should have, yes, they should have left this as the last GCN game, but let's face it. Nintendo has a shitty lineup for the Wii right now, and its launch was worse.
