Saints Sign WR David Patten

Adding depth and a veteran presence to an impressive but young receiving corps, the New Orleans Saints signed free agent wide receiver David Patten to a one-year contract Thursday. Patten, a 10-year NFL veteran, brings experience - and winning experience at that - to a passing attack that was tops in the league in 2006.

Patten brings three Super Bowl rings along with him to the Crescent City, all earned during the four seasons (2001-04) he played with the New England Patriots. One of Tom Brady's favorite receivers during his Patriot days, the speedy 32-year-old wideout will now give Drew Brees yet another target as the Saints look to improve upon their offensive performance from a season ago.

"We're very happy to have David join our team," said Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. "We believe that as a proven winner, his veteran leadership and abilities on and off the field will be a great benefit to our club."

Most recently with the Washington Redskins, Patten has played in 126 career regular season games, catching 259 passes for 3,761 yards and 20 touchdowns. Additionally, the Western Carolina product has 20 receptions for 260 yards in seven career postseason appearances with two touchdowns, including a score in the Pats' Super Bowl XXXVI win at the Superdome.
