Actually, it occured to me last night right after I posted that above that the goofy guns is probably Rockstar's way of putting up some petty defense against the anti-videogame freaks out there. Kids can't go out shooting police with shrink rays if shrink rays don't exist.
Thinking about it that way, it kinda pisses me off. If that were the case, it's not a very good defense, and it's taking a part of the game away that I think is necessary. Having joke radio stations is one thing, but filling the game with Twisty Rockets or whatever is too distracting from the plot.
