LOVED this movie, and I never watched the show when I was a kid. I knew about the Transformers, and I knew a few names like Optimus Prime and Megatron, as well as a few that I'd heard on the internet.
Yet, they still managed to make you really want the Autobots to win, and they made you realize that they really were alive and not just machines.
Also....
"1. Bubblebee is a fucking VW Beetle, not a Corvette. And Megatron is a gun, not a jet. Also, Barricade? There are no Decipticons that are cars. Only Autobots and be cars."
He was a Camaro in the movie, not a Corvette. Also, in the movie in case you didn't notice, they can take -any- shape. That is why Bumblebee changed from the old car to the newer one, and of course how Frenzy took the shape of the phone as well as the stereo.
