Yeah I definatly see where you're coming from, but from their perspective they're basically making sure you can't just randomly pick player a and then have him do exactly the same shit as randomly selected player b.
They haven't done it in the most efficient way, I agree. But this way you're getting a different(albeit a slightly different) experience when playing as different people.
It may just be down to personal preference at the end of the day, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to prefer it to last years partly due to this. And at least this way we won't be getting online CAWs that are 7ft tall, can make you tap in 2 seconds and do 450 suicide planchas.
Although I admit that one flaw I do see with it so far is the hardcore style. Basically if you're in a hardcore match or extreme rules then your going to have to pick someone with hardcore, or the very least dirty style. Or else lose out on any decent weapon attacks. Where as the other fighting styles will seemingly offer a variation in how a match is played, those styles will actually give a handicap if you will to the player controlling the hardcore/dirty styles in those matches.
