Now, here are your options, kick a field goal which is a pretty good chance of putting points on the board, or have your backup QB throw to your 3rd string TE (or wait, wasn't it the 3rd string RB?) at which point even if you get it you didn't score and the other team still has a chance to stop them before the endzone.
I wonder why no one said this of the Colts in 2004?
Nov. 14 Houston - W (49-14)
Nov. 21 at Chicago - W (41-10)
Nov. 25 at Detroit - W (41-9)
Dec. 5 Tennessee - W (51-24)
Rams in 2001
Miami Dolphins | W | 42-10
Detroit Lions | W | 35- 0
Carolina Panthers | W | 48-14
Atlanta Falcons | W | 35- 6
Indianapolis Colts | W | 42-17
plain and simple, it's the NFL, you may change the play calling a little bit, or pull your starters, but you don't take your foot off the pedal!

November 25th 2004- "The Colts replaced Manning with Jim Sorgi late in the third quarter. Otherwise, the QB would have had a shot at tying the NFL record of seven touchdown passes in a game, shared by five players: Sid Luckman, Adrian Burk, George Blanda, Y.A. Tittle and Joe Kapp. "

Manning was sat in the 4th quarter after his last touchdown which put them up 48-24. Need i remind you, they kicked 3 onside kicks and faked field goals all game long?

Needless to say, i posted all the recaps for you. There's nothing talking about the Colts running up the score infact it was the opposite. Every single game Manning and the starters were benched in the 4th. Its really really easy to go back through schedules and pick out the biggest point differntials and point fingers at them and say they were running up the score, just to justify your team doing it. Obviously that wasnt the case. Good thing all this info is still available to obtain, incase someone tries to twist the facts.
