Damn sure not in this era. Not nessecrily because of lack of talent, but we live in a time where you can literaly choke on the cynicism. EVERYTHING gets shit on at one time or another. And EVERYTHING is "overrated".
That's a rather cynical approach. Though it's hard to foresee a musical icon being produced in an era of corporate pablum. It's not so much that everything's overrated as it is everthing is dumbed down for the sake of consumerism. This happened in the 70s, 80s, and 90s as well, just not to the same level. It was realistically possible for someone to break away from the pack in those decades.
