Yeah, the mandatory part does bug me a bit... Mainly because it makes me worry about space (I have a 60GB model) and DMC4 for example, uses like 5 gigs. I already have some music, games, songs for Rock Band, and demos on it, plus pictures, so I'm a bit worried about space in the future... I know what you mean. A 5 Gig install is a lot, even for the larger models. I bought an 80 GB model because I was (evidently erroneously) told that it had hardware BC, but still, 5 GB is like a 16th of my console's storage, assuming no room for the OS and whatnot.

In terms of upgrading, didn't they make the HDD upgradable intentionally?
