Yeah, the attitude era pretty much spawned tons of faces who are not "good guys" or "kiss babies" or anything like that. Austin is a good example. So is Rock, Foley, Cena, just about all of them.
But I see what you mean. Cheating is Eddie's entire gimmick, and he is so over as a face. But I think one of the things that got him over were the Latino Heat gimmick, people cliqued with Eddie. He has a fun gimmick.
When you take a likable guy like that, shave off his mullet, and all the sudden he has the fiery temper to go along with it... I mean, his promos went through the roof. Before he put me to sleep with his typical "ese vato, hey holmes," crap. But now, he has a new twist to his gimmick.
His character development took a huge turn recently. And Eddie is going great as a champion. And it's good to know that.
