In reality, do you honestly think that the games would be exactly as they are now if the designers had completely free reign? Others are easier to work with. For example, you could sum up most people's interest in Sting in three songs, yet they keep putting him up on Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Think it's because he's synonymous with guitar legends? Yeah, they chose Syncronicty II over Stairway, and licensing has JUST become a problem.

You made a good point, though.
But if they could get Metallica (which was all about that whole Napster bullshit), then they could get the Crue (which was against Metallica's stance all throughout).
I guess I'm saying that it shouldn't be too hard to get the band that is more liberal about that sort of thing if you can get the more conservative band. In other words, it's just an excuse to me.
