Activision and Blizzard were merged when Vivendi essentially bought controlling interest in Blizzard. I can't remember if Vivendi made them a part of the Universal group or not, but the controlling company is called something like Vivdendi Universal, and they control the subsidiary ActiBlizzard (I know that's not what it's called, just being cute).
This is why ActiBlizzard has free run of the Universal catalogue.
Anyway, long story short, it's a clusterfuck.
