Big Dipper

So I just got the new Big Dipper Anthology. I don't think many people on here would know them, but I figured I'd shill them anyway. They're one of those bands that had some pretty solid radio play near Boston in the 90s, kinda a 90s alternative, mild punkish undertones, and some poppy sounds as well. Not the easiest band to classify, but they're pretty fun. I have "Edith" stuck in my head, a song I don't think I've ever heard before.

Half the Anthology is out of print discs, (Heavens, Craps, Boo-Boo), and the other half is unreleased tracks, demos, etc. This is a pretty damn good set, though the band is hardly an epic group. They also do a damn good cover of "All the Way From Memphis," though it's not on this record. Brian May's cover is way, way better, but it's a cool song anyway.

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”
