Well, the Wii if you love Nintendo games or multi-player in the same room.

360 is the best for online and has the largest library of good games right now. If you want a hi-def console and not bothered about hi-def movie discs I would highly reccomend it. I say discs, because by all acounts the American Xbox Live movie library is pretty good for HD. If you were looking to use that feature, I would say get the elite for the 12-gb HD though.

PS3 if you need blu-ray in your life, but even then I bought a blu-ray/HD-DVD-rom with blu-ray/DVD/CD writing for £80 when I sold my PS3 and my PC is hooked up to my TV via HDMI so I can't lose on that front.

I'm finding it harder and harder to reccomend the Wii these days to people who were not fussed on the Gamecube. I know so many people who just have it as a Wii Sports machine (and more recently Wii Fit) that unless you want Mario and Zelda, there's not too much point to it right now, although No More Heros is badass.

Overall at this point I would say 360. Even without it's XBox Live (£40 a year well spent I feel mind you) it has more good, exclusive games than the PS3 and multi-format games are generally better on the 360 (with the notable exception of Burnout Paradise). MGS4 is coming next month on PS3 and even if you do believe the rumors it's coming to 360 eventually, it will be at least 6 months. Although MGS4 makes it harder to choose, I'm sure Mass Effect, Halo 3, Bioshock, Dead Rising and Forza 2 (to name a few!) should keep your mind off the fact you can't play it
