Well, it happens right after Infinite Crisis. Which is why they are all cleaning up wreckage at the beginning, and why Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are not in it... and all the people in space comes from the Rann-Thanagar War... but you don't really need to read either of them to get the story. You just need to know that there was a big crisis and some people got stuck in space.

Ralph Dibney's stuff continues off of Identity Crisis and what happened to him there... Which if you know, is pretty self-explanatory.

Renee Montoya is coming out of Gotham Central, but again you don't really need to read it. You just need to know that she is no longer a cop and is a drunken angry lesbian.

And Black Adam was previously a member of the JSA but left to liberate Kahndaq and became its new dictator who has a zero tolerance policy against crime.

Really, 52 can be read with no lead in at all, though.
