MK:A was plain and simply bad writing.

Katana: Mother, you're alive...
Sindel: Too bad YOU... will die.

There's about a million ways you could've taken a possibly emotional turning point for Katana (who was cool and calm in part one) and made it a great scene on film, instead we get the above line of dialogue.

There's alot of failed scenarios like that in the movie.
