You might be thinking of the "storyline" Vince wanted to do with Stephanie where he would be revealed as the father of Stephanie's baby. When she shot that down, Vince suggested Shane instead of himself as the father.

There was also the angle where Shane and Vince would join Billy and Chuck to form a stable called the Village Corporation.
