The fans (the ones that WWE cater to) loved Cena. So yes, Cena was successful as a champion, many times over. Sure, WWE had been pushing Cena down our throats to the point where people were starting to boo him, but they've been going easy on shoving him in our faces.
All I'm saying is that it's entertaiment and sometimes we take it too seriously, and get angry when things happen that offend our high class tastes.
Phoenix as an I/C champ for a month or so would be no worse than Rey being WHC for nearly 4 months, or Hogan winning the WCW belt with the Fingerpoke of Doom.
More horrible things have happened to the belts.
