I think part of it was to show that paedophiles aren't always creepy old men, they can be young, well off, clean cut good looking guys who you'd never ever suspect, like the guy in the film.
It's been a while since I saw it but I remember leaving the cinema and feeling the same way most people here felt, which was that I had little sympathy for the girl because she came across as an annoying psycho and I sort of felt bad that I was rooting for the evil child rapist and murderer.
But I don't think it was supposed to be a typical one side is good and the other side is bad film like Narcissus said.
