Well, to tell you the blatant truth here, I didn't really expect this to be blown up into some long drawn out debate here but I suppose I should've considering who it is I am speaking to. I actually do remember alot of our prior conversations on the subject, and I also remember them going absolutely nowhere. It isn’t so much that I don’t believe you have your own individual opinion on the subject (or many other subjects for that matter), It’s that it seems that in the past you have posted a lot of things to get a rise out of people that I’m not all to sure you even agree with. Not even saying that I disagree with that either considering we basically post here for our own individual entertainment, but you sure do it a lot. This is not an attack of your character, as I don’t know you “in the real world”, it’s just an observation off of things you’ve posted in the past. I could very well be mistaken, it’s just the way it seems to me. You like being right and you don’t mind being ‘the bad guy’. I say if we’re going to put this much effort into attacking each other, let’s put this much effort into discussing the issue at hand instead.

John Cena has been absolutely on fire in the past 4 years in the WWE, to many fans delight and to many fans dismay. On one hand you have an extremely charismatic man that is a natural leader, has a strong business sense, is dedicated to the sport, and is just one hell of a guy. On the other hand though, you have a subpar wrestler, a somewhat passable promo man, and a guy that has trouble acting out material that isn’t his own. What the guy has accomplished in such a sort amount of time is pretty amazing but that’s exactly the problem at the same time. We’ve seen so god damned much of him in 4-5 years that it’s hard for him and the WWE to keep him fresh. Not that they’ve been trying all too much. You say that he’s a ‘memorable’ figure but when have we had to forget him? He’s been in our face and shoved down our throats for years. The same old shit, over and over again. And when he isn’t on TV due to a very rare injury every once in awhile, we are being fed promo videos the entire time he’s out of action. If he’s really that ‘memorable’ then why do they feel such the need to remind us he’s still alive?

I like Cena as a person from what I’ve seen, he seems pretty awesome. I even enjoy watching him as a performer TO AN EXTENT, but what is happening with the Cena character is truly ruining wrestling for me. It boggles my mind how they rationalize him getting booed so much with the façade of him being ‘controversial’. Fans are so desperately trying to reach out to WWE and tell them that the character is just stale but WWE doesn’t want to listen. I’m sure it will straighten out eventually and I’m sure his latest injury was actually good for him so the fans had a bit of a break, although these promo vids are ridiculous. I also hate when people bring up the ‘WWE is completely at fault. When Cena was writing is own material he was awesome”. No one party is to blame for this. Part of being a great entertainer is being able to bring somebody else’s ideas to life. John Cena has A LOT of trouble adapting to somebody else’s script and it shows. Of course he would be more comfortable writing his own stuff but everybody would. Granted ‘JBL is poopy’ doesn’t give him much to work with sometimes, but I believe he needs to learn to adapt a bit better.

Punch, punch, kick, punch, clothesline, back suplex thingy, 5 knuckle shuffle, FU, over. Every match. Not every match in the past 6 months, but every match in the past 4 years! I know everybody has a set move list for a reason but I’m starting to think he just doesn’t know anything else or something. I mean dear Christ, how boring can you possibly get? And it’s not like I’m the only one that notices. He gets BOOED out of the god damn building for it and receives ‘same old shit’ chants frequently. Doesn’t he think it might be time to learn something else? I know this is a pretty standard Cena rant but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t valid. The greatest superstars have been the ones that can still surprise you after so many years of watching them. I can still sit through some HBK and Taker matches, be thouroughly entertained the entire time, and still not know what’s going to happen next. Those guys know how to put on a fucking wrestling match. And yes, they rely on signature moves but it doesn’t put you to sleep.

When you say ‘memorable’, I don’t quite know what you mean. If you’re talking about ‘legend’ like material then I simply don’t see it. When I think memorable I think Perfect, Flair, Arn, Tully, Savage, Hogan, Rock, Austin, HBK, Taker. Cena just doesn’t come to mind. I mean I can rile off probably 30 HBK matches off the top of my head and would have trouble remembering 10 of Cena’s. He’s got heart, he’s got personality, he’s great at waving and kissing babies; but as a wrestler/entertainer he’s got some serious work to do. I hope one day he does reach the potential that he’s got but I don’t see it happening anytime soon.
