There was a cross-roads in Saved By The Bell canon. You could either choose to acknowledge the path and events of The College Years, or The New Class.
You couldn't have both, because Screech would physically be in two junctures of life at the same time.
Unless he was taking night classes and interning for Belding during the day. In which case, Screech is a workhouse and wouldn't be anywhere near the doghouse.
