Yeah, but Alex was still a kid. I am fairly sure she left the island and came back (Ben's mom), so that is how she ages.. has Ben and dies.
This could be why Ben is so shocked that she dies.
Edit: You have to read the entirety of timelooptheory to get why this could work. I see it as a very possible theory.
