If Austin goes over Jericho, Jericho would lose a ton of heat. If Jericho goes over Austin, that would be huge for him. Now seeing that it's Austin's last match and it's in Texas, I don't know that this would happen, but who knows. Rock and Foley put over Evolution in their last Mania match.
Also, pairing Jericho with Austin leaves Cena free to work with Taker. That could make for a decent Mania match.

You make a good point, but I highly HIGHLY doubt that Austin would be willing to put over Jericho in his return match. Jericho is simply not a big enough star.
You cite Rock N' Sock as an example, but that was a tag match. One-on-one, penis-on-penis, is a different ball game.
Jericho going over Austin would hurt Austin's legacy more than it would do good for Jericho....especially when you consider the fact that Jericho will never be the #1 guy in the company.
If Cena went over Austin, it would also add to Cena's star power and credibility...while not making Austin look too bad. If Austin beat Cena in Texas, then the WWE could use that to turn Cena heel or something....and then have him beat Austin in a return match.
Anyway - that's just my take on it.
Jericho should NOT be the guy to beat Austin...or face Austin at Mania.
Orton and Cena are the only two guys worthy enough to face Austin IMO....and Orton's booked.
