Consoles don't change this much and when they do, it's usually an internal redesign that just uses smaller parts to do the same shit. Nothing like these fucking upgrades that handhelds seem to get.

But that's the thing. Consoles don't. Handhelds do. Hell, in other regions, they did this with some of the last couple of gens of console, too. We've got the DSi coming out now, the third design of the DS line which has different features (Granted, DS to DSL wasn't a HUGE change, but it was a change), so it's not like there's a huge difference between the number of iterations. Now, if it is a new console instead of a redesign (PSP 2), you did just buy a four year old system. That's about the lifespan between the GBA and DS, for example, so it should be an assumed risk.
