I was holding down+back the whole time and was like WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!

I mean I could have easily jumped away, but I was so god damn dumbfounded as to why nothing was working that I just sat there holding it, hoping it would magically work. Got another controller somewhere here, so I'm gonna see if that's the issue.
