Whatever about how good he is, he's only 14. He should be playing for a youth side until at least until he is past the age of 16. He is still growing at 14, however developed he is, and he won't be able to stand up to playing grown men, week in, week out. You run the risk of burning him out.
We all saw what happened to that other physically gifted prodigy, Ronaldo. Big before his time, playing top flight from the age of 16, and he burned out. I think it would be better for American football, and Adu, if a bit of patience was shown with the kid. He should have been shielded from publicity and allowed to develop like any other footballer.
No question he is extremely talented, but he isn't the only prodigy in football to have emerged, and there is nothing to say he will ultimately show the same dominance on the top level as he did at youth.
