...but the fact is, the show is not about a mob boss. In the scriptbook and in a lot of interviews, Chase goes over the fact that first and foremost the show is not about a mob boss, its about a family man who works in O.G. Infact the show was going to be called 'Family Man'.
But if they called it Family Man it would still be about a man dealing with the two sides of his life, organized crime and his real family. Which is exactly what I said.

The point is when the show first got popular it was because you felt like you couldn't miss an episode. They still managed to tell the story of Tony's battle dealing with both sides of his life (ie in the episode where he takes Medow to Colleges) while at the same time having tons of action. Also, I think if you talk to most people they will say they enjoy the 'mob' aspects of the show over the marital issues between Tony and Carm. Granted thats a big part of the overall story, but if you dont have the action, the killings, the drug deals, the renegade gangsters, you have a show that should be on the We network instead of HBO.

Last season had nothing that I would call exciting. The Cramela/Furio story didn't ever peak with an affair (another letdown), Tony bought a horse (I was on the edge of my seat for that one), Chris goes to rehab (although that did make for a funny episode), Paulie got a painting touched up (feel the drama!), The guys spent an entire episode talking about Columbus, I mean it was a boring season. It was a season that seemed to set up a lot of the stuff that is going on this season. Which is fine from a stroytelling POV, but it still made for a boring season. I cant see how anyone can honestly say Season 4 was anywhere as good as 1 or 2. Its like saying Goldfather III was "just as good as the first two", which would be a horrible lie.
