If I were to rank gaming "taints" they would go like this.

You beat the game yourself - Zero taint
You looked a guide - Minimal taint because you still had to play the game
You had a friend over and he said "Let me beat this level/guy!" - More taint than a guide because the friend either knew or is figuring it out for you and you just watched.
Game Genie - Until now, this was the Ultimate Taint. You're like Neo in the Matrix at this point. No excuse to fail, but you do still had to go through and play it.
The Game Beats Itself - The New Ultimate Taint. You did nothing. Hope you enjoy getting your ass kicked on level 30, newb.
