Him dropping the belt to Bats isn't the dumbest thing. Gave Batista the edge in the feud, then gave Orton the chance to get further over by putting him out AND winning the title from the two top faces and the "unstoppable" giant.
Him retaining and then starting another HHH feud wouldn't have this awesome.
