Montreal fans booing the national anthem I don't think was even a political statement. Canadiens fans have always been loud, and at times obnoxious. I doubt very much that this had something to do with politics, or at least not the whole incident.
Just the fact that an American team was the opposition.
I do find it funny however that the Canadien's are owned by (George?) Gillette, an American, who is helping turn this franchise around.
I'm a Habs fan and I thought it was very distasteful, but you have to remember that it is Montreal we're talking about - the same fans who started a huge riot because of Maurice Richard.
