If you have the time, I think you should go back and watch some Doink matches with Bobby Heenan on commentary. Listen to the way The Brain put him over. The character was obviously an accomplished wrestler, and it showed in his performances. There was just something completely 'off' about him that made him dress as a clown. They would speculate at to whether it was head games or if he was just a complete fucking lunatic. They would make comments about him looking "very familiar", and speculate as to him possibly being an older wrestler that people had forgotten about (which he actually really was). I really wish they would have stuck through with Doink being a heel to see if they would have ever had him reveal his identity, but the only problem was HE WAS TOO FUCKING OVER. He was getting crazy cheers for doing dastardly shit. What a compelling character. They need depth like that in today's WWE.
