Mortal Kombat's alright. I wouldn't call it an awful movie, nor would I call it a good one. It's mediocre.
But it's probably getting points on brand familiarity and nostalgia. I mean, honestly, can you imagine watching that movie and trying to figure out what the fuck is going on? Any movie that isn't a sequel (and technically even sequels should) have the obligation of making itself accessible to all audiences. That's a prerequisite for being a good film.
It has to have a beginning middle and end and some point of entry so you can figure out just what the fuck is going on.
Otherwise you're just committing images to screen that cater to an existing fanbase.
It's probably enjoyable because when we were 8 we used to play it on sega, so there's a built in affection for Scorpion and Sub Zero.
I think the sooner people making video games realize these things the better off it will be for everyone.
