Holly had already been with WWE for something like fifteen years, and during his final run, he was probably the most credible he had ever been during his tenure besides his feud with Brock Lesnar on SmackDOWN! a few years previous. If you recall, he was the first one to defeat CM Punk since his ECW debut. That back slice match was pretty good, and I actually did enjoy the work he was doing on ECW, but I think they did about the best they could with him. I definitely wouldn't go as far as to say that WWE 'shit the bed' with him, though. Honestly, I probably would have been furious if he was a full-fledged main eventer.
