Obviously they aren't a championship team right now, my point of contention isn't disputing that, it's disputing Francesa's opinion that having a power 1B is absolutely mandatory, which I think is silly.

He said on his NBC show last night that the Mets need a 1B that will hit them 35-40 HRs and they won't be able to put together a contender without that...not sure why it needs to be a 1B though, I'd take a 35-40 HR hitter in LF just as soon as I would at 1B...they need power any way they can get it. In fact, the only way they can get a 35-40 HR 1B is to trade for Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder, and they don't have the chips for that. The only other option would be to re-sign Delgado which is a huge risk, 37 year olds with hip injuries are never a good sign
