You should read up about the HP DV6000 series. Find out exactly how old it is and if he has a receipt to prove it. I am in the process of getting rid of mine as chronicled in this thread http://www.tpww.net/forums/showthread.php?t=94262.

The HP 9000 series had a lot of problems with the motherboard, but apparently there are a lot of 6000 series users having issues as well. Check HP's website for details and check other forums for more info. Mine died less than two years after I bought it due to motherboard failure + LCD. It was still under warranty.
