I've watched a lot of Machida's fights and he didn't look the same going into this fight but if he had more of those flurries where he had Rua up against the cage scrambling just like when he knocked out Evans then I'm sure he could knock Rua out or at least get some points his way. I think he was too set in his style and was bored and didn't adapt to the new situation.

I think he was too cautious in the early rounds. Waited to feel out Shogun too long. And then by the later rounds his stance and footwork had been nullified by Rua's leg and body kicks. By the 4th and 5th Machida didn't even take as deep a stance he normally takes, which affected his power generation for all of his strikes.
Kinda weird, considering Machida came out early in the first with a good flurry of punches and knees....and then he just reverted back to being almost completely defensive. I mean, he IS the UFC LHW Champion and one of the best fighters in the world so it's hard for me to say he should of done this or that.
