If I told a 'pirate' I enjoyed playing a game he burned on a disc, making sure he knew I didn't actually buy it, I'm betting he wouldn't say, "Thanks for helping me out." In fact, he'd ask where I got the disc for free and probably ban that contact. The entire aim is to make money not "put smiles on people's faces".
