The 106yd return happened, and Manning responded with a TD. A much needed 2-point conversion failed, and then Manning was taken out of the game.
Painter started by immediately getting shut down. Colts D stopped the Jets on their next attempt. Painter starts off the next series by fumbling and giving up a TD.
The game turned around so quickly that it didn't really matter what happened before. Perhaps if Manning had played the next series, a score might have happened. But what's to say Painter wouldn't have choked all the same in the 4th?
Manning, Wayne, Clark, and Addai were benched. But really, you can't bench them and not Manning, because the line might fall apart without good weapons to turn to, and then Manning might get injured.
