Both Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero have won the title. I do remember watching Rey with the title a few years ago.
Here's what happened. He won the Royal Rumble match in 2006, thus giving himself a match for the world championship at Wrestlemania. On an episode of Smackdown following the Royal Rumble, he lost the title shot to Orton. However, Theodore Long decided to put him in the world title match at Wrestlemania, anyway, and the match became a triple threat with Mysterio vs Orton vs Angle. After dedicating the match to Eddie Guerrero, because of Guerrero's death, he pinned Orton to win the title.
I don't remember how long he held it for, but I think it was a couple of months. It isn't really all that unbelievable that the WWE would give him the title again, especially with his popularity. I mean, if they gave Sheamus the title on Raw, what make Mysterio so unbelievable. Mysterio has many, many years left in wrestling.
