I could actually see it going the opposite way. HBM almost wins, but winds up getting dumped out by somebody unexpectedly. Later, during the World Title match, Michaels actually COSTS Taker the belt. That way, he has no Rumble challenger gunning for him, which frees him up for Michaels. Michaels can say that if he can't have a Mania title shot at UT, NOBODY will!
