Star players in the NBA get special treatment, that's a given. With the calls themselves plus the arguing. I'm sure David Stern really doesn't want to see Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, etc. fouled out or ejected from a TNT primetime game. The only "stars" that typically foul out are big men, now one could argue it's because they are more likely to foul, which could be true, but I think it's because they are less of a draw to the average fan. Watching a big man go to work isn't as exciting as watching somebody break a defender off the dribble and take it to the rim. That's why everyone rocks Air Jordans and not Air O'Neals.
I don't know if there are certain teams that get calls though. Part of me thinks that any team that is doing well will typically have a big star/draw ratings. Even if it's in a shitty market where people don't watch/go to the games like in Miami, they still have a big star with Dwayne Wade who is "interesting" to the common fan. At the same time though there are obviously "big" match-up's like Celtics/Lakers, Cavs/Lakers that are really going to generate a lot of interest.
