A vociferous and excited crowd can make or break (yes, MAKE OR BREAK) a wrestling show. Thing is, I wouldn't wanna trade the stadium set-up for Mania, simply in exchange for a loud crowd; it's pivotal nowadays to the perception of Mania as THE show of the year. Only Madison Square Garden could substitute the stadium setting without feeling like a step down.
WWE needs to find a way of successfully translating the volume of noise among the crowd onto the TV screen, be it more stategically placed mics, turning the volume up on the mix, whatever; I haven't read any live reports from the show, but I'd imagine "lack of crowd reaction" is more something being bitched about by those watching on TV than those who attended the stadium.
