At any point, you can stop doing main missions and go explore, encounter random content, do side missions (of which you'll usually have several going at a time), do gang hideouts, collect pieces for outfits, play minigames, or just wreak havoc if that's what does it for you. Even the main missions can still be done in whatever order you choose up to a certain point. I realize that's similar to GTA, but how can it get less formulaic for you?

Don't see how the series could get any less 'formulaic' than that. Going to go with BDC on this.. what is it that you want that would make it less formulaic? How do you feel it could be improved? Even the mission types were varied enough between assaulting forts, escorting people, having stagecoach chases, holding off trains with a gatlin gun.. etc.. that they never got 'tiring' or boring at all.
