WWE Superstars – July 22, 2010
The opening bout sees Evan Bourne take on Primo. Both guys show off their speed and athletic ability in this one, but in the end Bourne gets the nod with the Shooting Star Press. Bourne celebrates for a bit before Primo attacks him. The announcers mention that Primo’s frustrations of having not won a match in a long time have reached a boiling point. Out runs none other than Justin Gabriel for the save as Primo flees.
Up next is a match between two of the weirder personalities on Raw in Santino Marella and Skip Sheffield. Funny comedy bit between them that ends with Sheffield dominating Santino for most of the bout as the crowd enjoys seeing the lovable loser Santino get beaten up. Sheffield nearly beheads Santino with a lariat for the victory.
Over to the SmackDown portion of the show next as a Trent Barreta-less Caylen Croft squares off against “The One Man Rock Band” Heath Slater. This match probably wins the “dark horse match of the week” because it got an 89% match quality rating. Anyway, Slater winds up getting his first win on the SmackDown brand following a running Russian leg sweep.
Time for the main event as “The Uncommon Man” Cody Rhodes takes on the Big Show. Show was in a foul mood after losing at Money in the Bank, and Cody did all he could to avoid the big damage. After taking some abuse, Cody had enough and kept going outside the ring. Show eventually decided to chase him around the outside. Cody ended up tripping Show, sending him into the steel steps. Cody hopped back into the ring at the count of 9 and got the cheap count out win. That win was certainly…uncommon!
